LCRH Counselling

Sara

Sara is a Consultant Genetic Counsellor and a nationally recognised leader in the field of genetic counselling. She has more than 25 years of experience supporting individuals and families through complex genetic and reproductive decisions in both the NHS and private sectors. Sara began her career at Guy's Hospital, where she worked within the Regional Genetics Service, supporting families affected by a wide range of inherited conditions. Over time, she developed a specialist interest in reproductive genetics, prenatal testing, carrier screening and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT).

Since 2005, Sara has worked extensively within fertility services, helping patients understand genetic risks and explore their reproductive options. She previously led the PGT service at one of the UK's leading fertility centres and has been instrumental in the development of carrier screening programmes, both within specific communities and across broader populations. Alongside her clinical work, Sara has held national leadership roles within the profession, including serving as Chair of the Association of Genetic Nurses and Counsellors (AGNC).

As founder of Guided Genetics, Sara now provides independent genetic counselling and works closely with fertility clinics to ensure patients have access to expert guidance before, during and after genetic testing. Her approach combines scientific expertise with compassionate counselling, helping individuals and couples make informed decisions that align with their personal values, circumstances and family goals.

A Message from Sara:

"Genetic information can be incredibly powerful, but it can also feel overwhelming. Many people come to genetic counselling at a time when they are already making important decisions about fertility, pregnancy or their family's future. My role is not simply to explain the science, but to help you understand what that information means for you.

There is often no single 'right' decision when it comes to genetic testing or reproductive choices. Every individual, couple and family has different priorities, experiences and values. I believe that good genetic counselling creates a space where people can ask questions openly, explore their options without pressure and feel supported in making decisions that are right for them.

For some people, a consultation provides reassurance and clarity. For others, it helps them navigate uncertainty or process unexpected results. Whatever stage of your journey you are at, my aim is to provide clear information, thoughtful guidance and a supportive environment in which you can feel confident moving forward."
