LCRH CounsellingNatasha
Natasha is a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Supervisor (Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling, British Psychotherapy Council, Institute of Group Analysis, British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision, British Infertility Counselling Association). Natasha has over 15 years of counselling experience. Her career was previously within the NHS, working individually and in groups. This work was mainly with hard-to-reach patients, ensuring therapeutic support and psychotherapy was made accessible and relevant to those often marginalised, excluded or accessing support for the first time. Natasha also developed a passion for building and bringing together services across medical, therapeutic and educational settings. Her experience lends itself well to working in the fertility sector to support patients who maybe wouldn’t otherwise access counselling and to help patients navigate medical processes and procedures with their wellbeing in mind.
Following her time in the NHS, Natasha became the Director of Highgate Counselling Centre, the longest standing charity counselling provider in the UK, where the organisation’s focus is to provide affordable, high-quality counselling and accredited counselling training. This experience, together with her private practice gave Natasha the opportunity to further her interest in working with those experiencing fertility difficulties and/or needing fertility treatment.
A message from Natasha about fertility counselling:
“As adults who are used to running our lives successfully, we understandably struggle with the feelings encountering the unknown brings up for us. The process of trying to conceive is steeped in the unknown and so naturally challenges everyone in unique ways and at different times. It’s important to me that fertility counselling is flexible and adaptable to the needs of each individual. For most, fertility counselling is not about delving deep into our psyche or pulling up historic issues, it’s about allowing a space to support how you are thinking and feeling about what is happening for you now, to try to help minimise the impact on the rest of your life.
Fertility treatment often puts great demand on people physically, financially, practically.. There can be so much unpredictability; situations can change from hour to hour or feel like they are stuck and will never change. There are times when it can feel important to process what is happening and other times where you don’t want to think about it at all. I therefore work as flexibly as I can with each individual. I believe it is important to listen and support your instincts. Some people find it helpful to have regular sessions, others might just want to allow themselves a space periodically or as a one off, with someone who is familiar, but removed from their everyday life and understands the process they are going through trying to create their family.”
